HOUSTON, APTA Annual Meeting – Oct. 13, 2014 – Cubic Transportation Systems, a leading integrator of information technology and payment systems and services for intelligent travel solutions, will exhibit its NextCity suite of interlocking platforms for fare collection, tolling, traffic signal management, its broad range of products and services for urban mobility and more at APTA EXPO 2014 in Booth 1845, Oct. 13-15 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.

Over the last few years, Cubic Transportation Systems has rolled out a number of installations based on NextCity platforms, including the successful Opal smart card program in Sydney and two of the world’s largest account-based transit payments systems in the world: Ventra in Chicago which has been in operation since 2013, and the account-based system in London for which Cubic completed launch across the entire transport network in September.

NextBus, a Cubic subsidiary that provides real-time bus arrival information to consumers, is also exhibiting at Booth 2115. Its customers include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Toronto, Boston, and more than 80 other colleges, universities, resorts, hospitals, towns and cities.
In addition to Cubic’s EXPO participation, speakers from the company and its subsidiaries will participate in APTA’s TransITech Conference throughout the week. Larry Yermack, Cubic’s strategic advisor, will speak on Monday, Oct. 13 at the “Welcome/Opening General Session.” Later the “Emerging Technology Panel” from 9:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m. will feature a discussion with Angela K. Miller, Cubic project director and chair of the APTA Emerging Technology.
Later that afternoon, Cubic will be sponsoring the session, “Electronic Payment Systems I,” featuring its vice president of strategic initiatives, David deKozan. The session will explore the current choices for this technology, what advances are on the horizon, what has been implemented thus far and lessons learned. deKozan will be accompanied by moderator Edward Johnson, chief administrative officer, Metropolitan Area Rapid Transit Authority (Atlanta), Thomas Parker, business development, Infineon Technologies, Doug Thomas, general manager, Vix Technology, Inc., and Peter SerVass, business development, DoubleMap, LLC.
On Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 10:15 a.m.-12 p.m., Phil Silver, Urban Insights’ director of business development, will participate in the “Information Technology/Big Data Roundtable,” focusing on how data can help transit practitioners optimize their transportation infrastructures. Silver’s section of the conversation is entitled “Big Data, Not Big Brother.” He will be joined by moderator Gerry Akkerman, director, business technology planning, South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority, David Laidig, systems engineering manager, MTA New York City Transit, Manjit Sooch, enterprise software engineer, AC Transit, Jeffrey L. Spencer, ITS team leader, Federal Transit Administration, Lloyd Sullivan, section manager, project management and business intelligence, Orange County Transportation Authority and Abe Kololli, deputy chief – I.S. manager, Utah Transit Authority.
