Cubic Transportation Systems to strengthen transportation-related data analytics consultation services with Urban Insights
SAN DIEGO, July 30, 2015 – Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS), a business unit of Cubic Corporation (NYSE:CUB), today announced the appointment of Daniel Collins as vice president and general manager of its subsidiary, Urban Insights.
Urban Insights provides transportation-specific consulting, services and technology that merge CTS’ domain and technical expertise to empower transportation organizations to gather data, comprehend insights and act on them. Through the Urban Insights approach to business analytics, cities, transportation agencies and authorities can improve operations, reduce cost and better serve travelers through data-informed insights previously unavailable with standard reporting tools and methods.
Collins’ appointment will help accelerate the company’s growth initiative to meet rapidly expanding opportunities in the transportation sector driven by its big data and predictive analytics technology and consulting services.
Collins joins Cubic from IBM’s Smarter Solutions group, which brought together IBM resources in global consulting, software group products and lab services. At Smarter Solutions, Collins was focused on bringing business analytics, big data and cognitive computing products and solutions to the public sector. Prior to IBM, he was the deputy commissioner of Information Services at the Massachusetts Department of Revenue and held various public works positions in New York City government. Collins was also a data analyst at the National Transportation Systems Center – now Volpe – in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He holds a master’s degree in city and regional planning from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree in international affairs from Widener University.
Collins will report to Matt Cole, executive vice president, strategy and business development for CTS, who led the launch of Urban Insights as acting GM during the past year.
“Dan’s tremendous experience and knowledge in this field will be invaluable as he leads our efforts to help transform transportation into a smarter, more data-driven industry,” said Cole.
“What’s exciting here is Urban Insights’ unique position in the market that combines Cubic’s extensive experience in the transportation sector and financial strength with the agility and energy of a startup,” said Collins. “There is no question that big data and predictive analytics can solve problems the transportation industry cannot address with their existing tools, and I believe Urban Insights is going to emerge as a top player in this new and fast-growing field. I am thrilled to be part of Cubic and eager to contribute to its future success.”
