Partnership will reinforce Cubic’s NextCity transport payment and data analytics innovations

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Jan. 21, 2015 – Cubic Transportation Systems, Inc., a business segment of Cubic Corporation (NYSE:CUB) and a leading integrator of payment and information technology and services for intelligent travel solutions, announced that it has joined the Smart Cities Council as a global lead partner. Smart Cities Council is a coalition of industry thought leaders, innovators and practitioners dedicated to improving the livability, workability and sustainability of the world’s cities.

Smart Cities Council founding chairman Jesse Berst said, “With more than 40 years of experience in transportation, Cubic has the expertise, innovation and imagination to provide the tools cities need to improve travel –a core engine of smart cities. Mobility and congestion are challenges which every city faces and more of them are turning to technology to provide better, faster and cheaper ways go get around.”

A booming global population puts pressure on cities facing the inevitable question of how to manage personal travel within geographic and infrastructure constraints. “Integrated information and payment systems in transportation can be a foundation for ‘smart cities’ and these are two key areas where we can extract important data to help cities and private operators plan their transportation services. This technology is at the heart of NextCity – Cubic’s strategy for regional mobility,” said Matt Cole, executive vice president of Strategy, Business Development and Diversification, Cubic Transportation Systems.

“We also provide big data tools and deep analytics techniques for customer enterprise sources through our Urban Insights subsidiary, helping transportation operators solve operational issues and bring greater efficiencies and cost savings to their systems.”

Cubic’s legacy as the leading provider of fare collection and revenue management systems for public transport has put the company at the center of rail, bus and other public transport operations in many of the world’s largest cities including New York, London, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Sydney, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
