Cubic Transportation Systems brings world-leading, pay-as-you-go One Account management technologies to U.K. rail

SAN DIEGO – March 21, 2019 – Cubic Corporation (NYSE:CUB) today announced its Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS) business division implemented an account-based ticketing (ABT) system trial for Abellio ScotRail to enable smarter travel in Scotland. Cubic’s One Account solution was deployed on the Glasgow Cathcart loop and is branded by Abellio ScotRail as ‘Smart Plus.’ This system will allow customers on this route to trial the new pay-as-you-go ticketing system.

“Cubic is proud to work with Abellio ScotRail to deliver smart-ticketing solutions in Scotland,” said Laurent Eskenazi, managing director of EMEA, CTS. “Cubic’s One Account delivers an end-to-end multimodal platform that encompasses the aspirations of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) which can be extended to the U.K.’s entire public transport network.”

One Account is an account-based approach that allows travelers to have a single funding account across multiple modes of public/private transportation for a seamless mobility payment experience. It allows travelers to reduce the cost of a journey with smarter, personalized and actionable end-to-end journey planning.

There is growing interest in ABT in the U.K. Cubic’s implementation of the Urban Mobility Back Office platform for ABT is the first significant deployment in the U.K. and will help pave the way for further deployments on both bus and rail, delivering “best fare” promise to passengers.

“We are delighted to be involved in this innovative trial,” said Claire Dickie, head of revenue development, ScotRail. “Customers are changing the way they want to do business with us and we see account-based ticketing as one of the potential ways to improve the overall customer experience.”
