Camden Hairstylist receives a PATCO Wave& Pay ANYWHERE Card Loaded with $600!
CAMDEN, N.J., August 1, 2012 —Edgar “Eggy” Lee of Camden, NJ, is the final winner in the Ride Free for 100 Days Contest, which was open to all PATCO riders and sponsored by Cubic Transportation Systems, Inc., a business segment of San Diego-based Cubic Corporation (NYSE:CUB), and a leading integrator of payment and information technology and services for intelligent travel solutions.
Eggy won a PATCO Wave & Pay ANYWHERE Visa® Prepaid Card, loaded with $600 – good for approximately 100 days of travel on the PATCO line. The card was presented to him at the PATCO station at 8th and Market Streets in Philadelphia.
A hairstylist in Woodlynne, NJ, Eggy said he uses PATCO for his six-day-a-week commute to and from work, as well as for transportation to Philadelphia, where he goes to shop, dine and enjoy the nightlife.
He said the $600 he would have spent on his PATCO fares now will go to his guilty pleasure, shopping.
“I love my Wave & Pay ANYWHERE Card. I love the no wait that comes along with having the card. If I’m late to work, I don’t have to waste time paying for the ride; I just wave it and go! The free rides from the contest are so helpful,” said Eggy.
PATCO (Port Authority Transit Corporation) partnered with Cubic Transportation Systems in 2011 to create the first transit agency-branded, all contactless Visa prepaid card in the world. This was one of the first times that consumers had been able to use the same transit payment card for both transit and retail purchases. That prepaid payment card, the PATCO Wave & Pay ANYWHERE Visa® Prepaid Card, debuted on September 26,2011, as Phase One of the PATCO open payment program. There is no charge to get a Wave & Pay card, and no credit check is required.
Earlier this spring, on April 2, PATCO and Cubic announced Phase Two of the open payment program. During Phase Two, riders are able to use any contactless Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express card, or a virtual card in a mobile wallet, to make secure transit payments at PATCO gates and parking terminals. Riders simply tap their cards and go, paying their PATCO fares with a quick flick of the wrist.
Officials from Cubic said the PATCO open payment system is designed not only to speed riders through PATCO’s stations, but also to gain valuable technical information on the best practices for deploying and operating future contactless payment systems in other transit systems. This will include Chicago and London where Cubic is under contract to deliver open payment.
