Second of three winners receives a PATCO Wave & Pay ANYWHERE Card Loaded with $600!

CAMDEN, N.J., May 30, 2012 Benjamin Daniel of Pennsauken, NJ, is the second winner in the Ride Free for 100 Days Contest, open to all PATCO riders and sponsored by Cubic Transportation Systems, Inc.,  a business segment of San Diego-based Cubic Corporation (NYSE:CUB), and a leading integrator of payment and information technology and services for intelligent travel solutions.

Daniel won a PATCO Wave & Pay ANYWHERE Visa® Prepaid Card, loaded with $600 – good for approximately 100 days of travel on the PATCO line. The card was presented to him on Wednesday, May 16, in Philadelphia.

Daniel, a client services and marketing manager in Philadelphia on the threshold of earning his Ph.D., said he uses PATCO for his five-day-a-week commute to and from work, as well as for transportation to volunteer opportunities, special events and to enjoy the nightlife in Philadelphia.

He said the $600 he would have spent on his PATCO fares now will go to a couple of his favorite hobbies: reading and gadgets.

“I really love my Wave & Pay Anywhere Card. I was one of the first to get the card when it was introduced in September 2011.  It makes so much sense using one card for transit and retail.  Winning this Ride Free for 100 days contest means a lot,” said Daniel.

The contest isn’t over yet. One more lucky winner is still to be chosen in June. Visit www.patcowaveandpay.com/contest to learn more about the contest or to enter. There is no charge to get a Wave & Pay card, and no credit check is required.

PATCO (Port Authority Transit Corporation) partnered with Cubic Transportation Systems in 2011 to create the first transit-agency branded, all contactless Visa prepaid card in the world. This was one of the first times that consumers had been able to use the same transit payment card for both transit and retail purchases. That prepaid payment card, the Wave & Pay ANYWHERE Card, debuted on September 26, 2011 as Phase One of the PATCO open payment program.

Earlier this spring, on April 2, PATCO and Cubic announced Phase Two of the open payment program. During Phase Two, riders will be able to use any contactless Visa, MasterCard or Discover card, or a virtual card in a mobile wallet, to make secure transit payments at PATCO gates and parking terminals. Riders will simply tap their cards and go, paying their PATCO fares with a quick flick of the wrist.

Officials from Cubic said the PATCO open payment system is designed not only to speed riders through PATCO’s stations, but also to gain valuable technical information on the best practices for deploying and operating future contactless payment systems in other transit systems. This will include Chicago and London where Cubic is under contract to deliver open payment.
