BERLIN, September 18, 2012 -- Cubic Transportation Systems will be bringing over 40 years of fare automation and payment network experience to Berlin at InnoTrans 2012. Sharing its stand with German transport network Rhein-Main Verkerhsbund (RMV), Cubic will be demonstrating Nextfare, its area-wide, multi-tenant, multi-modal back office system for transit associations.

Cubic has provided this platform to RMV as the basis for its smart card processing, clearing, and settlement operations. Cubic will also be showcasing its mobile business system (MBS) and its Nextcity initiative – Cubic’s concept for a fully-integrated, whole-of-transport, journey and payments management system.  Combined, Nextfare and MBS create an integrated platform for fare management, device management, mobile ticketing, mobile fare services, and overall enterprise management for fare collection operations. Nextcity builds upon this foundation to offer a range of additional transport services including trip planning, real time passenger information, and single account payment capability for parking and road pricing.

Demonstrating its successful ticketing and back office project with RMV, Cubic will be on hand at InnoTrans to speak to visitors about how it implemented the integrated, multi-operator electronic fare management system across the region. Cubic is responsible for running the back office of the standardised, high quality system that enables passengers to use one flexible, integrated ticket for their entire journey across the region – across all 33 regional railway lines, nine S-Bahn tram lines and 140 regional and 798 local bus routes.

Following on from the implementation of the integrated RMV back office, Cubic developed a smartphone ticketing app for RMV which has enjoyed great success. Visitors to the Cubic stand will also be able to learn about how the ‘HandyTicket’ app – which enables passengers to pay for and download single journeys, day passes and group day passes for use on all services in the RMV region - was devised and delivered and how such applications can benefit their operations and customers’ travel experience. Since its launch in late 2010, over one million RMV tickets have been purchased using the app. Building from this operational foundation, Cubic has expanded MBS to include a variety of new facilities including various smart card management and NFC payment functions.

“We are delighted to welcome InnoTrans visitors to our stand,” says Dr Wolf Heine, systems and marketing manager, Cubic Deutschland. “As cities across the world are battling with the challenge of congestion and the need to provide convenient transport solutions to a growing, more mobile population, we will be able to advise individuals and organisations on how best they can provide their customers with intelligent solutions for navigating their way around increasingly urbanised transport infrastructures.”
