Cubic Transportation Systems’ executive to share NextCity vision and transportation solutions with national urban policymakers

SAN DIEGO, June 18, 2015 – Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS), a business of Cubic Corporation (NYSE: CUB), today announced that Matt Cole, executive vice president, strategy and business development of CTS, will speak on “Technology and the Transformation of Urban Transportation” in the Technology and Communications session at the 83rd Annual U.S. Conference of Mayors Meeting to be held in San Francisco from June 19 to 22. Cole will discuss infrastructural challenges many urban cities face today due to impacting social trends and possible solutions through Cubic’s NextCity vision.

“Disruptive technology and the sharing economy can help us evolve urban transportation networks; but today, these advances are creating more information and service silos, not fewer.  The challenge is to create a coordinated framework that unifies the whole transportation network to maximize benefits for citizens, businesses and the cities in which they live,” said Cole. “At Cubic, we call this framework NextCity, our architecture that integrates transportation payments, information, operations and communications region-wide across all modes of transportation to eliminate silos, gain insights and optimize customer experiences and network utilization in real time.”

Cubic’s NextCity vision is centered on three core principles: integrated customer experience, one account and integrated operations and analytics. Cubic offers integrated and “actionable” customer experience through predictive technologies like NextBus that alert riders when their bus will arrive, as well as the multi-agency mobile payments and real-time app that will launch in Chicago later this year. Cubic already integrates multi-modal transportation payments through its worldwide revenue management systems, but aims for integrated payments through ‘One Account’ – one main account travelers can use to pay for all their transportation needs in a city. The company also helps cities in Europe and the Far East monitor and control traffic congestion through an array of intelligent transportation management systems. Lastly, Cubic is deploying and evolving tools and services for integrated operation and analytics, which offer a city-wide view of mobility use, and identify interrelationships and inefficiencies that need to be addressed.

Cubic will be speaking at the transportation and communications session:

  • Technology and the Transformation of Urban Transportation: Saturday, June 20, 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. in room Golden Gate 2-3, Lobby Level at Hilton San Francisco Union Square, San Francisco, California
Chaired by Kasim Reed, Mayor of Atlanta
