Cubic Global Defense to conduct maintenance repair and overhaul services for the Defence High Frequency Communications System

SAN DIEGO – Feb. 28, 2018 – Cubic Corporation (NYSE: CUB) today announced that its Australia operations of its Cubic Global Defense business division has signed a contract with Boeing Defence Australia to conduct maintenance repair and overhaul services in Townsville, Australia for the Defence High Frequency Communications System (DHFCS). The new maintenance arrangement capitalizes on Cubic’s specialized skills and expertise in the provision of maintenance and repair of equipment supporting high frequency (HF) stations. It also shows Cubic’s commitment to Townsville, home to Cubic Defence Australia.

“The new depot capability in Townsville is the only Cubic repair depot for this equipment in the world, outside of Cubic’s headquarters in San Diego, California,” said Mark Horn, director of business development, Cubic Defence Australia. “The repair capability includes staff training in San Diego, acquisition of specialist support and test equipment, as well as facility upgrades at the Townsville depot.”

Boeing Defence Australia said the new maintenance arrangement formed part of the company’s commitment to provide the most effective service to the Australian Defence Force.

“Boeing is continually looking at how we can improve our support for what is a world-leading and cost-effective information exchange capability for the Australian Defence Force,” said Boeing Defence Australia program manager for High Frequency Communications, Nicole

Harrow. “Our new partnership with Cubic enables us to move this maintenance activity to Australia, rapidly improving the turn-around time on repairs and reducing the potential impact of any downtime.”

The DHFCS provides the Australian Defence Force (ADF) with survivable, reliable, wide-area strategic and tactical high frequency (HF) communications over Australia and offshore. Townsville is one of five locations around Australia hosting the DHFCS assets.

The DHFCS was designed, installed and commissioned by Boeing Defence Australia and delivered into operational service to the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) in 2004. More recently, several significant further enhancements to the DHFCS have been delivered by Boeing Defence Australia, including an 8-kilowatt transmitter system upgrade.

Cubic supplied 8-kilowatt HF transmitters to Boeing in 2015 and its Townsville-based staff were involved in the manufacture, test and acceptance and onsite training for the initial systems.
