Cubic attends the World’s Largest Conference for Women Engineers

On November 7th and 8th Cubic made its debut as a first-time exhibitor at the World’s Largest Conference and Career Fair for Women, also known as “WE 19”, hosted by the Society of Women Engineers in Anaheim, California.

Having a presence at this conference was made possible by the collaborative efforts from Cubic leadership, the corporate communications team, human resources, and the diversity and inclusion committee.

This two-day career fair hosted over 250 companies and brought together a community of over 14,000 female engineers from all over the country. The Anaheim Convention Center was packed with companies who all shared the same goal: to recruit women engineers, but more importantly, to empower women in STEM by communicating how much value they bring to a company.

Our presence at the WE 19 Career Fair allowed all three business units: Cubic Transportation Systems, Cubic Global Defense, and Cubic Mission Solutions, to connect with women who are not only looking for a career in engineering but for a career in which they can grow into positions of leadership.

Anita Draa, Silvia Piquet, Angela Mudge, and I agreed that the women we met were just that- innovative, well-spoken, and looking for opportunities to take on leadership roles. Those who visited Cubic’s booth ranged from university students looking for internships to professionals with years of experience looking to make a career change. As an exhibitor, we were able to talk to prospective candidates about current openings at our headquarters in San Diego and across our other North America sites. Additionally, it was a great opportunity to enlighten attendees about the technology that Cubic develops and the advancements we are making in the transportation and defense sectors.

Overall, participating in WE 19 was a successful and rewarding experience. As we work to execute our Diversity and Inclusion initiative, Cubic will continue engagement with the Society of Women Engineers at a university and national level while also extending our outreach to other diverse organizations.
