Corporate Communications Associate

Not all superheroes wear capes —it’s an expression we commonly use to show our admiration for ordinary people taking extraordinary action to help others.  In the wake of the destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey, a couple of our Cubes put on their superhero capes and headed to the effected areas in Texas to lend a helping hand. Read their stories below:

Roy Priest – Business Development Advisor, Cubic|GATR

The destruction in Houston devasted Roy Priest as he watched the news on T.V. Without hesitation, he took initiative and drove down to the effected areas to provide support.

“As soon as I got to the area, I spent the bulk of my time helping first responders with search and rescue efforts,” said Priest. “We were able to shut off power to a building before it went underwater and investigated a call we received about a person stranded on a boat.”

Priest brought Cubic’s GATR antenna – an ultra-portable antenna capable of providing high-speed telecommunications connectivity – with him to Houston to deploy in areas in need of Internet access. Driving past NRG Stadium, Priest ran into a major logistics center set up for local, state and federal authorities as well as a dispatch center for ambulances, first responders and fuel trucks. He offered the commander Wi-Fi capability via Cubic’s GATR antenna, which he readily accepted. The antenna was used for almost two weeks outside the stadium.

Cubic’s technologies are continuing to help in the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Harvey. Our GATR antennas are being deployed to areas that were effected in Florida, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. We are also working with our partners to deliver antennas in other areas of the Caribbean as well.

Travis Queen – Senior Business Development Director, Cubic|TeraLogics

From his hometown of Dallas, Texas, Travis Queen and his family were tucked away from the destruction of Hurricane Harvey. As a father of two, he couldn’t help but think about the innocent children impacted and displaced by the hurricane.

“My daughter who is six years old, asked my wife and I if the kids down in the Houston area lost everything,” said Queen.  “We told her that unfortunately, many families had lost their homes, toys, possessions, etc.”

It was at that moment, when his daughter and son started building donation boxes and creating signs, with hopes to send supplies to the children in need. Queen started doing research and contacted the Parker Lee Project. The organization based in Ennis, Texas, helps obtain useful donations for families with medically dependent children and children with special needs. Currently, Queen is working with regional Cubic locations to collect donations such as first aid kits, diapers, IV tubing, feeding stands and other supplies. Once donations are collected, he plans to deliver them to the victims.
