Jeremy Villena

Software Engineer, Cubic Defense

What is your role at Cubic?

I am a software engineer for Cubic Defense, a business division of Cubic Corporation.

What is a recent project you've worked on?

A recent project that I have worked on is Cubic’s SLATE program. The SLATE program focuses on Live Virtual and Constructive (LVC) Training to enhance Air Combat readiness for current and future pilots.

Why did you choose Cubic?

I have been working for Cubic for almost five years. I gained interest in Cubic because they focus on developing new ideas to enhance the military’s training capabilities - Funny story is I actually applied to Cubic 10 times before I got hired.

What makes Cubic a great place to work?

The people and the projects I get to work on. At Cubic, there are many people who take time to help teach you new things that you may have never even heard of! The projects are also brand new and exciting, helping you think outside of the box.

What was the best career advice you ever received?

Always know the basics in your area of work. The basics are the foundation and will help you get far in your career. Another piece of advice is when given any opportunity, take it. You’ll never know what doors it will open for you.

How can young engineers best prepare themselves for this field?

Always focus on remembering the basics of your field of work. Having a good foundation will help you advance in your career.

What motivates you?

My wife and daughter. After coming home from a long day of work (prior to COVID-19), these two always bring a smile to my face.
