Cubic Transportation Systems presents vision on integration of tolling into a single-account payer system for all transportation modes
SAN DIEGO – June 5, 2018 – Cubic Corporation (NYSE:CUB) today announced that its Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS) business division’s Asia-Pacific Regional Product Director, Paul Buchanan, will be speaking at the National Electronic Tolling and Charging Conference (NeTC) 2018 from June 6 – 7 in Melbourne, Australia.
Organized by ITS Australia with the theme, “Tolling and Beyond,” NeTC 2018 hosts leading authorities in the tolling field and examines new technologies, trends and challenges relating to global tolling and road user charging.
Buchanan will discuss Cubic’s vision of tolling being incorporated into a true Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) account. Buchanan’s presentation will provide a roadmap for how transport agencies and operators can integrate tolling, as well as other forms of public and private transportation services, into a single account with seamless payments across all modes.
“With multimodal transportation at the core of future mobility services, tolling needs to become part of the wider MaaS trend,” said Buchanan. “A more flexible MaaS financial engine could be key to the introduction of a more democratic form of revenue collection, whereby drivers make micropayments based on their mileage and the zones they travel in – similar to what is current practice on public transportation.”
The Cubic Tolling Back Office solution is designed for multiagency use while giving each entity control over its own business rules, revenue apportionment and general ledger. It lays a solid foundation for account-based payment processing and customer services across entire states or multistate regions for any number of agencies or types of operators.
Buchanan will present at the following session:
- The Future of Multimodal Interoperability: One Account for Transportation
Session 5: User Experience Challenges to Traditional Charging Approaches
June 7, 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. (local time); Crown Promenade Hotel, Melbourne, Australia.
The NeTC conference will be followed by a technical tour of the Australian Integrated Multimodal Ecosystem (AIMES). AIMES is a University of Melbourne led collaboration bringing together Cubic and 35 other project partners to improve safety, mobility, sustainability and livability for the community.
The establishment of this world-first live testing ecosystem in Melbourne sees an inner city grid of streets mapped with smart sensors. In real time, the sensors monitor the flows of vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians and public transportation through the grid to deliver an integrated, connected and multimodal approach to transportation management.
