The Problem

Significant congestion took place during peak and off-peak hours along two heavily-traveled corridors in Baytown, Texas, State Highway 146 and Garth Road. Traffic management was necessary along these key North-South corridors in Baytown’s transportation network.

The corridors are a major hub for large oil refining, chemical, plastic, and rubber manufacturing companies as well as the primary link to a large concentration of retail and commercial businesses that can cause unpredictable levels of congestion. 

The Texas Department of Transportation and the City of Baytown sought to improve operations through 28 intersections, provide congestion relief to area commuters and improve travel times along commercial arterials.

The Solution

Trafficware was selected by the City of Baytown, outside Houston, Texas, to deploy SynchroGreen® Adaptive Traffic Control System, ATMS.now Central Management System, and the wireless Pod Detection System™.

The SynchroGreen™ adaptive traffic control system optimizes signal timing for arterials, side streets, and pedestrians through real-time adaptive traffic control. This field-proven solution is designed to reduce motorist travel time, delays, and stops.

The Results 

  • Installed adaptive control to 28 intersections along two heavily-traveled corridors
