UITP Conference in Rome Highlights Cubic’s Innovations in Transportation
The UITP Conference and Exhibition is an important event for the transport industry in Europe, attracting delegates and visitors from around the world, but especially from Europe. Cubic exhibited at this year’s event, held June 6-9 in the Fiera de Roma near Rome, Italy. Products and services promoted at the conference included:
- Full turnkey automatic fare collection (AFC) systems based on Cubic’s Nextfare™ back office suite of modules
- Multimodal fare collection processes accessed via a Web-based ticketing system
- Integration of OEM systems and devices into automatic fare collection systems
- Helpoint unit, which allows remote operation of a gate
- Mobile phone with electronic ticketing interfacing to the Cubic Universal Validator onboard buses. This technology is currently in use in Hanau, Germany.
- A parking machine concept using a contactless smart card to pay for parking or “top up” card
The event gave Cubic a chance to showcase its growing presence in Italy. ATCM of Modena asked to exhibit in Cubic’s stand to show its new ticketing system to other potential customers visiting the stand. And Cubic and its agent in Italy, t&t, demonstrated the integration of AVL and fare collection using the Cubic Driver Control Unit as the interface to both systems on the bus.
Staffing the stand were employees representing both Cubic Transportation Systems Limited and Cubic Nordic. In addition, a Cubic paper was presented on Customer Relationships Management and how smart card and ticketing systems can benefit operators.
