Cubic Demonstrates Expanded Capabilities at 2005 APTA Expo
Cubic participated in the American Public Transportation Association (APTA ) Annual Meeting & Expo in Dallas September 25th-28th, with a multi-themed showcase for regional transit systems integration, transport safety and managed services.
The APTA event, which is held every three years, updated attendees with the latest in products, services and new technology.
Despite predictions about when and where Hurricane Rita was expected to make landfall along the Texas coast – which resulted in a slight downturn in attendance – thousands of transit industry representatives filled the 280,000 square foot show floor of the Dallas Convention Center, one of the largest facilities in the United States.
Cubic’s system integration expertise was highlighted as visitors were shown demonstrations of the company’s high-use fare collection devices including the Universal Vendor which features the ability to process a wide range of media fare types, including new limited use contactless smart cards.
Also showcased in the Cubic exhibit were Cubic Parking Systems’ innovative on-street and off-street pay stations, ticket vendors and parking management subsystems as well as a composite of the company’s transport safety solutions, including cutting edge biometrics and access control technology.
APTA’s Transit Technology Showcase included a presentation by David deKozan, vice president of Cubic Parking Systems Operations, on “Leveraging the Transit Investment to Add Parking to the Regional Transportation Payment Systems.” His presentation explored the options available to transit agencies seeking to expand services across various travel-related applications, including parking, utilizing a common smart card ticketing platform.
As in 2002 at the Expo in Las Vegas, Cubic was one of the few companies that received a visit from APTA President Bill Millar and a delegation of key Congressional staff members.
Jim Tymon, House Highways and Transit Subcommittee of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee; Sherry Little, Senate Banking committee; John Young, Office of California Representative Juanita Millender-McDonald; and Sarah Kline of the Senate Banking Committee received a warm welcome from Cubic and high level overview of the diverse solutions being showcased in the booth.
More than 750 companies exhibited in this year’s Expo.
The next APTA Expo will be held in September 2008 at the San Diego Convention Center.
