Cubic Contract Pushes
Expansion of New Retail Ticket Issuing System SAN DIEGO, CALIF., and LONDON, October 12, 2006 -— Cubic Transportation Systems Limited, a subsidiary of San Diego-based Cubic Corporation (AMEX:CUB), has received a contract valued at more than £2 million (U.S. $3.9 million) to supply, install and maintain its FasTIS + Oyster ticket issuing system for RSP (Rail Settlement Plan), an operating unit of ATOC (Association of Train Operating Companies) in the U.K. The sale ensures that TOCs (Train Operating Companies) operating in and around London can continue to respond effectively to customers' travel needs. Cubic, a principal partner in TranSys, the consortium that created and now oprates and maintains the Oyster® Card system in London, engineered FasTIS + Oyster as the next-generation system to APTIS, the ticket issuing system Cubic supplied to the national railway more than 20 years ago. The new system, a oollaborative effort between Cubic and RSP, was developed to sell Oyster smart card products in addition to all nationa rail fare products, while providing streamlined ticket issuing, reduced waiting times and short queues at the point of sale. The new FasTIS + Oyster devices will be used at 25 rail stations where London Underground and the privately owned TOCs share stations and ticketing systems, and will allow passengers to move easily between heavy rail, London Underground, bus and other modes of transport. "This contract award marks the first sale of the new FasTIS + Oyster system with the Oyster® Card sales capability following its recent development," said Steve Shewmaker, CTSL's managing director. The new contract includes a hosted data management service and three-year equipment maintenance agreement to be provided by Cubic, along with an option to purchase additional FasTIS + Oyster units and renew maintenance services for an additional three years.
